The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team renewed their rivalry on Thursday night at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School in North Central Conference action. The Lynx entered at 15-15 and 4-2 in the conference, while the Cowgirls entered at 13-16 and 3-3 in the conference.
CGD would get off to a slow start, as Webster City preyed off the Cowgirls mistakes to lead by as much as 22-9. CGD did battle back to make things interesting, but Webster City held on for a 25-19 win. CGD would battle back, preying off of Webster City mistakes in the 2nd set, as the Cowgirls took the set 25-18. Webster City would then come out and dominate set 3 by a score of 25-11, before CGD held off the Lynx in set 4 to take it 25-20 to send the match to a winner-take-all 5th set. The set would be tight early, but Webster City miscues doomed the lynx as CGD took the final set 15-9 to score the win.
The Player of the Game was CGD junior Elliot Ennis, who recorded 8 kills, 7 blocks and 3 aces in the match. Sydney Friesleben led the Cowgirls with 10 kills while also tallying 9 assists and 3 blocks. Olivia Gallentine led the Lynx in kills with 13, while Delainey Bargefrede had 11 kills and 28 assists, and Addy Tesdahl added 10 kills of her own.
CGD returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Southeast Valley for their Class 3A, Region 2 opener. Webster City wraps up the regular season on Saturday at the Winterset Tournament.
