Webster City volleyball falls in senior night battle with Fort Dodge, 3-2

The Webster City Lynx volleyball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted Highway 20 rivals Fort Dodge in non-conference action at Webster City High School for senior night. Webster City entered at 15-14, while Fort Dodge entered at 15-10.

It would be a slow start for Webster City, falling behind 5-0 right away in the opening set, but despite their best efforts to battle back, Fort Dodge took the opening set 25-22. The Lynx would bunker down and take a hard-fought second set by a score of 25-23, before dominating the Dodgers in set 3 by a score of 25-11. Fort Dodge would ratchet up the intensity in the 4th set, taking it 25-19 before stealing the winner-take-all 5th set 15-9 to give the Dodgers a 3-2 win.

The Player of the Game was Webster City junior Adysen Poppen, who had 7 kills, 6 blocks and 5 aces on the night. Olivia Gallentine and Marissa Hedeen led the lynx with 11 kills each, while Delainey Bargfrede had 10 kills and 19 assists.

Webster City returns to action on Thursday night, when they travel to Clarion to take on Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in their regular season finale.
