The Webster City Lynx volleyball team made the trip south on Highway 17 on Saturday, to compete in the Madrid Tournament at Madrid High School. The Lynx were joined by the host Tigers, as well as Ankeny Christian, Audubon, Collins-Maxwell, Earlham and Panorama.
Webster City opened their day with a 2-1 win over the Wheelers of Audubon as the Lynx started the match off slow with 17-21 loss, before dominating set 2 and 3 by scores of 21-4 and 15-6 for the win. Panorama would be next, as the Lynx swept them 2-0 (21-10, 21-13), before the Lynx would sweep Collins-Maxwell 2-0 (21-14, 21-8).
The Lynx would then butt heads with the Eagles of Ankeny Christian to round out pool play, as the Eagles came in ranked #1 in Class 1A. The Lynx would fall to ACA 2-0 (15-21, 10-21) in the final round-robin game, but Webster City would be re-matched with the Eagles for the tournament title. Webster City battled ACA closer the 2nd time around, but the Eagles pulled away for a 2-0 win (16-21, 17-21).
Webster City’s record improved to 13-10, and they return to action on Thursday at Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
