The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Forest City Indians in Class 2A, District 2 action at the Clarion Football Field at CGD Middle School. The Cowboys entered with a record of 2-3 and 1-1 in district play, while the Indians also entered at 2-3 and 1-1 in district play.
CGD’s night started off with a bang, as Diego Gonzalez returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown to put the Cowboys up 7-0 right off the rip. Both offenses would be stagnant throughout the first quarter, before Forest City was the ones to rip off the lid with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Ty Dillavou to Corey Thoreson to tie the game up at 7-7. Bad field position continued to mire the CGD offense, as Carson Nesheim would throw an interception late in the first to half to Forest City’s Jack Thompson. Thompson would then be on the receiving end of a 25-yard touchdown pass from Ty Dillavou that put the Indians up 14-7 at the halftime break.
Forest City got the ball to start the 2nd half and used a time-consuming drive to march the field and score off 10-yard touch pass from Dillavou to Jack Thompson to put the Indians up 22-7. CGD would respond by driving the field all the way to Forest City 6 yard line, but on 4th and goal, Wyatt DeCoster was stopped short of the goalline on a pass from Carson Nesheim that gave the Indians the ball at their own 1 yard line. Forest City would not be able to get out of their own end, as quarterback Ty Dillavou was sacked in the endzone for a safety to bring the score to 22-9. On the ensuing drive, CGD would get back inside the 10, and would not be denied as Mason Allen scored a 2-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 22-16 Forest City. The Cowboys would have not one, but two chances to try and punch in the tying touchdown and game-winning PAT, but both times came up short as Forest City walked away with the win.
Mason Allen was the Cowboys leading rusher with 72 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown, Diego Gonzalez would have 136 all-purpose yards and a touchdown, while Carson Nesheim was 6/13 for 105 yards and an interception. Forest City quarterback Ty Dillavou was 9/21 for 188 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception.
