The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team made the trip east into Hardin County on Thursday night, to take on the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference volleyball action. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 12-14 and 3-1 in the NCC, while the Cadets entered at 7-19 and 1-3 in the NCC.
It was a slow start to the night for the Cowgirls, as Iowa Falls-Alden came out and pounced on CGD in the opening set for a 25-14 win. The Cowgirls would come out and perform much better in the 2nd set, but failed to hold a late lead, as IF-A battled back to steal the 2nd set by a score of 27-25. CGD would take care of business in the 3rd set, winning by a score of 25-21, but the bounces continued to go the way of the Cadets in the 4th set, as IF-A won it 25-18 and picked a 3-1 upset of the Cowgirls.
CGD was led by Sydney Friesleben, who had 7 kills and 2 aces, while Elliot Ennis had 5 kills, 5 blocks and an ace. Ella Sharar for IF-A had a monster night with 18 kills.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to action next Thursday, when they take on Algona at Algona High School.
