South Hamilton enters off their 66-14 thrashing over the Wolverines of Nodaway Valley for the Hawks homecoming matchup. In the win, South Hamilton averaged an unbelievable 20 yards per carry as a team in the lopsided win. The Hawks had 10 different players record carries on Friday, with Nick Severseike and Kolby Hodnefield taking both of their carries for long touchdown runs, while Prestin Van De Pol, Landon Greufe and Maddux Becker all took their only carries for long touchdown runs. The Hawks also picked up their first touchdown pass of the year, as Tjerdan Johnson found tight end Landon Sogard for a 34-yard touchdown pass.
2023 has presented a season of change for the Bulldogs, under first-year head coach Tyler Lloyd. Lloyd changed the Bulldogs look from a spread attack to a Wing T look, but the Bulldogs offense has remained balanced through the first half of the season. Senior quarterback Colby Rohe has gotten it done through the air, with 500 yards and 6 touchdowns, but has thrown 8 interceptions and only completed just over 42% of his passes. Rohe’s favorite target has been senior receiver Keaton Westberg, who’s caught 8 balls for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fellow receiver Quintin Hoskins has also caught 8 balls, for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the backfield, sophomore Cayden Dudley has been the workhorse, with 340 yards and 4 touchdowns off 75 carries, while senior Nathan Comer has 132 yards and a touchdown off 44 carries. The struggle has been consistent push up front for the Bulldogs in their new Wing T offense.
Defensively, the Bulldogs bellcow has been the sophomore Cayden Dudley, as he’s recorded 17 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks from his defensive end spot. Dudley is tied for the team lead in tackles with those 17, along with linebackers Nathan Comer and Cohl Burdette. Fellow linebacker Owen Schreiver has excelled in getting into opponents backfields, with 15 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. The secondary has gotten involved in big ways as well, as both Quintin Hoskins and Keaton Westberg have long pick sixes on the season, with Westberg’s going for 78 yards and Hoskins going for 86 yards.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM from Ogden High School on Friday night between the Hawks and the Bulldogs.
