The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the long trip to far-northern Iowa to take on the Midgets of Estherville-Lincoln Central in Class 2A, District 2 action. The Cowboys entered at 2-2 and 1-0 in district play, while the Midgets entered at 2-2 and 1-0 in district play.
The Cowboys got off to a good start, thanks to freshman Charlie Campbell, who built off his performance against GHV with a first quarter touchdown run to tie the score at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. From there, it was all Estherville-Lincoln Central, as Owen Larson accounted for 4 touchdowns on the night, 2 long ones to senior Tate Hoyer and a 41-yard pass to Ryan Leonard through the air, and a 49-yard touchdown run on the ground. Sophomore running back James Richard also had 77 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well. Carson Nesheim would struggle to throw the football, going 4-for-14 for 22 yards and 2 interceptions. Diego Gonzalez led the way with 67 yards rushing, while Mason Allen and Charlie Campbell each finished with over 50 yards, respectively, as Campbell had both CGD touchdowns in the Cowboys 31-14 loss.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday night, when they host Forest City for homecoming at 7 PM.
