The South Hamilton Hawks football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip south to take on the Wildcats of West Central Valley in Stuart, for the Hawks Class 1A, District 7 opener. South Hamilton entered with a record of 2-1, while West Central Valley entered with a record of 1-3.
South Hamilton opened the game fast, as the Hawks marched the field and Nick Severseike scored on a 23-yard touchdown run to put South Hamilton up 8-0. The Hawks wouldn’t strike again until the 2nd quarter, but again it was Nick Severseike, scoring on an 8-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0. The Hawks wouldn’t go long before finding the endzone again, as a short field allowed a quick drive, capped off by Nick Severseike’s 3rd touchdown of the night to make it 20-0. The Hawks would then execute a very good 2-minute drill late in the 1st half, capped off by Nick Severseike’s 4th touchdown of the first half to make it 28-0 at halftime.
The Hawks got the ball out of the halftime break, and marched right down the field as fullback Ashton Williams scored from 10 yards out to make it 34-0 South Hamilton with 8:16 to go in the 3rd. West Central Valley would fumble on their ensuing drive, giving the Hawks the ball back as fullback Noah Gunderson would score from 3 yards out to give the Hawks a 40-0 lead. The Hawks began to rotate in backups, as backup quarterback Braden Young would get in on the action with a 29-yard touchdown run, to put the Hawks up 48-0 late in the 3rd. The Hawks would put up one more touchdown in the 4th off a Jose Babcock 5-yard run to make the score 56-0. West Central Valley would get a late touchdown on a pass from Colton Lindsay to Tyson Partlow to make the final 56-8 South Hamilton.
The Hawks would churn up 512 yards rushing in the win, with Nick Severseike the leading rusher with 104 yards and 4 touchdowns on 10 carries, while 3 South Hamilton backs were over the 80-yard mark as well. South Hamilton returns to action on Friday night, as they host Nodaway Valley for homecoming at Bill Taylor Field.
