The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department investigated a three vehicle accident south of Jewell on Highway 69 at around 8 o’clock Thursday night with details released this morning. Reportedly a southbound 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUV driven by Louise Schmeling of Storm Lake was attempting to turn left into a drive in area at Little Wall Lake Park. A southbound 2020 Ford Fusion driven by Abby Allmon of West Des Moine was traveling directly behind the Schmeling SUV coming to a complete stop at the time. A southbound 2007 Volkswagen Passat car driven by Connor Deppe of Jewell was behind the Allmon car. The accident report stated that Deppe was unable to stop his vehicle and smashed into the rear end of the Allmon car. The impact caused the Allmon car to strike the rear side of the Schmeling SUV. Allmon was seen by first responders at the accident for neck pain but was not transported. The two other drivers escaped injury. Damage to the Deppe car was estimated at $6000 with the damage to the Schmeling SUV estimated at $2,500 and the damage to the Allmon car was totaled as a result of the accident south of Jewell. Investigating deputy Jordan Stangeland cited Connor Deppe with Failure to Maintain Control according to the accident report released this morning.
