The South Hamilton Hawks volleyball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Greene County Rams in the Hawks Heart of Iowa Conference opener at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. The Hawks entered with a record of 8-14, while Greene County entered with a record of 9-6 and 1-1 in the conference.
It was a slow start to the night for the Hawks, trailing 15-2 at one point in the opening set. However, South Hamilton clawed their way back into the match, cutting the deficit to as much as 2, before Greene County was able to take a 25-21 win in set 1. Set 2 showcased Greene County getting up early and not faltering late, as they picked up a 25-11. Set 3 would be a back-and-forth battle between the Hawks and Rams, before Greene County pulled away late for a 25-19 win and 3-0 sweep.
The Jewell Market Player of the Game was South Hamilton sophomore middle hitter Sara Scheller, who tallied 6 kills and 2 blocks in the match. Greene County senior Kaylee Stalder had a notable match with 21 kills for the Rams.
South Hamilton volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Saydel at 7 PM.
