The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip up to Winnebago County to take on the Forest City Indians for the first-time ever on the gridiron. Both teams came into Friday night with similar 0-2 records.
Eagle Grove started off the night with a punt, as Forest City wasted little time in turning it into points, as Ty Dillavou found Jaxon Archer for a 35-yard touchdown pass to make the score 6-0. Eagle Grove would fumble on the ensuing possession, which Forest City turned into more points as Dillavou hit junior receiver Corey Thoreson down the seam for a 25-yard touchdown pass to put the Indians up 13-0. The following Eagle Grove drive began to look promising, but a Hayden Schafer fumble gave it back to the Indians. Eagle Grove’s defense would flip the script, however, with freshman Cam Sission making his first career interception, giving the Eagles the ball back. Eagle Grove would march down inside the 5, but a Drake Canavan fumble at the 1-yard line gave Forest City the ball back, as the Indians broke the game open with a 54-yard catch and run by senior Jack Thompson to make it 19-0 Indians. After another 3-and-out, Forest City marched down the field and punched in a 5-yard touchdown run by Sam Klaassen to make the score 26-0 at halftime.
Forest City came out with the ball in the 2nd half and marched down the field quickly and Sam Klaassen punched in his 2nd touchdown of the night to take a 33-0 lead. Eagle Grove would then finally put together a scoring drive set up by a Leelan Spencer 54-yard run, which then led to Hayden Schafer 1-yard score to cut the score to 33-7. Forest City would then march down the field again as Sam Klaassen punched in his 3rd touchdown of the night from 2 yards out to make the score 41-7. Eagle Grove would get their 2nd touchdown of the night, set up by a Hayden Schafer 42-yard run, as Drake Canavan barreled in from 2 yards out to bring the final to 41-14.
Drake Canavan was the Eagles leading rusher with 34 carries, 149 yards and a touchdown as the Eagles rushed for 291 yards as a team. Eagle Grove returns to action on Friday night, as they open district by hosting Sioux Central at Gene Hinrichsen Field.
