The Webster City Lynx cross country teams opened their 2023 season with their home invitational on Monday evening at Links Public Golf Course in Webster City. Webster City was joined by CGD/B-K, Eagle Grove, South Hamilton, Roland-Story, Algona, Ballard, Boone, Fort Dodge, Gilbert, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt, Manson-Northwest Webster, Nevada, North Polk, Southeast Valley, St. Edmond and Waverly-Shell Rock.
Webster City competed in the “Purple Division” (Big Class) as the boys placed 8th in the meet, Justin Callahan was the top Lynx runner, placing 20th in a time of 19:16.66, while Jack Barner placed 26th in a time of 19:59.02. The girls placed 7th in their “Purple Division”, with Isabel Grossoehme the top placer, finishing 29th in a time of 25:01.20, while Rosemary Charmness placed 42nd in a time of 28:11.56.
The 4 KQ-Radio regional teams competed in the “Gold Division”, the top placer on the boys side was Roland-Story who finished 3rd. Corbin Lucchesi was the top finisher for the Norsemen, placing 8th in a time of 19:35.72, while Evan Voga placed 14th in a time of 20:07.90. On the girls side, Roland-Story placed 2nd, with the top finisher in junior Claire Truesdell, who placed 6th in a time of 22:12.68, while Lauryn Kilstofte placed 9th in 22:34.07.
Eagle Grove would place 4th on the boys side in the Gold Division, as Noah Thul was the Eagles top placer, finishing 11th in a time of 19:54.70, as Zabdi Castro placed 19th in a time of 20:35.41. Eagle Grove’s girls were unable to compete as a complete team, but freshman Alizabeth Page was the top finisher, placing 40th in a time of 30:14.06, while Janlis Nunez placed 44th in a mark of 32:17.35.
South Hamilton would place 5th on the boys side, as Pete Coburn was the Hawks top placer, finishing 17th in a time of 20:21.89, while Hayden Hill placed 20th in a time of 20:35.48. The Hawks finished 5th on the girls side as well, Olivia Beaune was the top runner, placing 20th in a time of 25:23.87, while Cici Herrick placed 22nd in a mark of 26:01.51.
Finally, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/Belmond-Klemme placed 8th as Christopher Greenfield was the top runner, placing 10th in a time of 19:39.39, while Tate Jackson placed 35th in a time of 21:51.89. On the girls side, they were unable to compete as a complete team, but Lillyann Aguilera placed 21st in a mark of 25:51.82, while Kendra Huedepohl placed 25th in a time of 27:10.03.
