The Webster City Lynx volleyball team made the short trip over to Fort Dodge on Saturday to compete in the annual St. Edmond Tournament at St. Edmond High School. The Lynx were joined by the host Gaels, as well as by Pocahontas Area, Bishop Garrigan, Southeast Valley and Aplington-Parkersburg.
The Lynx first game would come against Bishop Garrigan, which resulted in a 2-0 sweep (21-14, 21-9), middle hitter Marissa Hedeen led the way with 5 kills and 4 aces, while Olivia Gallentine had 4 kills. Delainey Bargfrede finished with 8 assists, while Ava Peterson had 6 assists. Webster City would follow that up with a win over St. Edmond 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 15-10), Gallentine and junior Addilyn Orton would each have 5 kills, while Delainey Bargfrede tallied 12 assists with 4 kills. Adysen Poppen would tally 3 blocks in the match as well.
As morning turned to afternoon, the Lynx would defeat Southeast Valley 2-1 (13-21, 21-19, 15-13) in their 3rd match. Delainey Bargfrede would have a big match, amassing 8 assists and a team-high 7 kills, while Ava Peterson had 11 assists. Adeline Tesdahl finished with 6 kills, while Addilyn Orton tallied 3 blocks. Webster City would then take down Pocahontas Area 2-1 (21-14, 21-17, 15-13) behind another strong performance from Bargfrede, who tallied a team-high 9 assists and 6 kills, which were tied with Marissa Hedeen’s 6 for the team-high. Ava Peterson had 4 aces in the match, while Adysen Poppen had 6 aces. The Lynx would the end their day with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-8) loss to traditional power Aplington-Parkersburg.
Webster City returns to action on Thursday night, when they open up North Central Conference play at home against longtime-rival Humboldt.
