The South Hamilton Hawks volleyball team returned to action on Saturday morning, when they made the northern trek into Wright County to compete in the annual Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Tournament in Clarion. The Hawks were joined by the host Cowgirls, as well as Eagle Grove, Belmond-Klemme, Clear Lake, Estherville-Lincoln Central and North Butler.
South Hamilton opened their day with a 2-1 win over North Butler, as Claire Hewitt and Tessa Skartvedt led the way with 5 kills each, as Tanna Thompson tallied team-highs in assists (14) and aces (5). South Hamilton would then make quick work of Eagle Grove with a 2-0 win, before a rematch with North Butler. The Hawks would beat North Butler once more 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 15-12), before falling to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 2-1 (12-21, 21-16, 15-10), Sara Scheller and Claire Hewitt each had 3 kills, while Tanna Thompson tallied 7 assists.
The Hawks would end their day with a 2nd straight match with the Cowgirls, where they would fall 2-0 (12-21, 16-21), as South Hamilton’s record improved to 3-7. The Hawks return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Madrid to take on the Tigers in non-conference play.
