Webster City, South Hamilton and Roland-Story volleyball compete in season-opening quad

Webster City, South Hamilton and Roland-Story’s volleyball teams kicked off their seasons on Monday night with their annual quad matchups at Roland-Story High School.

Webster City started off their night with a 2-1 win over (3A) #15 Roland-Story (13-25, 25-19, 15-11). Olivia Gallentine and Marissa Hedeen had 4 kills each, while Ava Peterson tallied 6 assists and Delainey Bargfrede tallied 5 assists. The Norsemen got a big match from Madelyn Risdal, who tallied 9 kills, while Kamryn Lande had 6 kills. Senior Ali Charlson and freshman Miley Geise each had 9 assists, while sophomore Alli Janes had 4 blocks.

The Lynx would then defeat South Hamilton 2-1 (21-25, 25-23, 15-12) in their 2nd match. Gallentine and Bargfrede would have the hot hand, with Gallentine slamming 10 kills and Bargfrede tallying 13 assists. Webster City would finish their night with a 2-0 loss to Central Springs (5-25, 15-25).

Roland-Story would bounce back with a 2-1 win over Cental Springs (21-25, 25-22, 15-13). Ali Charlson would have a team-high 18 assists, while freshman Brookelyn Jondle had a breakout match with 12 kills. Kamryn Lande added 10 kills of her own as well. The Norsemen rounded out their night with a 2-1 win over South Hamilton (25-14, 25-23, 15-11). Jondle built on her 12-kill match with 11 more kills, while Miley Geise added 16 assists.

South Hamilton would go 0-3 with a 2-0 loss to Central Springs to cap their night, but the Hawks managed to steal sets against the 15th-rated Norsemen and 4A foe Webster City.

South Hamilton returns to action this weekend at the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows tournament on Saturday. Webster City returns on Saturday when they compete at the St. Edmond Tournament, while Roland-Story will compete in the West Marshall Tournament this weekend.
