Radio Iowa released their preseason poll on Monday afternoon for Week 1 of the high school football season. Hamilton County was well represented as Webster City is ranked #5 in Class 3A in the initial poll, while South Hamilton is ranked #4 in Class 1A in the initial poll.

Webster City enters ranked #5 off a 6-4 season in Class 4A last year, Lynx return star running back and linebacker Jaxon Cherry, who rushed for 1,800 yards, amassed over 2,100 yards from scrimmage and a team-high 61 tackles. Lynx return a large chunk of their offensive line, including tight end Keegan Hisler, who has proven to be one of Webster City’s most dynamic defensive players as well.
South Hamilton enters ranked #4 after an 8-2 season in 2022, and return more than half of their production on both sides of the ball. The Hawks return a pair of 700+ yard rushers in fullback Noah Gunderson and running back Nick Severseike, as well as sophomore Kolby Hodnefield, who ran for more than 300 yards as a freshman. Quarterback/Linebacker Tjerdan Johnson is back as well, as is favorite target and defensive Owen Renaud, who amassed 15 TFL in 2022.
Webster City opens their season on Friday, when they host Fort Dodge at Lynx Field at 7:30 PM. South Hamilton also opens their season on Friday, when they host South Hardin at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell.
