At a Thursday evening meeting,the South Hamilton Community School Board appointed Lisa Ziesman as board secretary/treasurer for the district. Siesman takes over for retiring school secretary treasurer Janet Greufe. Ziesman was administered the oath of office at the meeting. The South Hamilton school board approved its depository banks and limits for the 2023-24 school year. Availa Bank will receive a limit of $16,000,000 and First State Bank with a limit of $750,000. A five year lease agreement with the Marco firm for copy machines was approved by the school board at a rate of $1198.79 per month. A used 12 passenger van was purchased by the South Hamilton school board for up to $60,000 and a used minivan for up to $43,000 using Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds. Another agenda item was the first reading of the 200 Series of policies with the second reading set for next month’s board meeting.
The South Hamilton school board approved the legislative priorities to be submitted the Iowa Association of School Board for review. The policies include student achievement, teacher recruitment and licensure and dropout/at-risk issue.
In personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of Dennis Barkema as junior high boys basketball and high school assistant softball coach.
South Hamilton school building and grounds director Marc Scheller presented an update on summer building projects. They include window replacement,air conditioning the gymnasium, replacement to the roof and gutters, updates to the exterior lighting, tuckpointing, boiler replacement, bus barn storage building,painting.asbestos removal, tree removal, playground equipment installation, and some painting and flooring updates.
The switch replacement project at South Hamilton planned for this summer has been delayed due to product availability and the Chromebooks have been moved and configures for students.
The South Hamilton school board and athletic director Dan Brodie reviewed the increases to admission ticket pricing and the cashless ticketing system to begin with fall athletic events. The Fall Kickoff Event is set for Thursday,August 17.
It was announced there will be a fund raiser for the South Hamilton Dance Team on Back to School night in August. A 28 E agreement with Iowa Central Community College for services were approved by the South Hamilton school board for the 2023-24 school year.
