Roland-Story baseball season ends in extras against West Marshall, 5-4

The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they took on the #8 West Marshall Trojans in Class 2A, District 13 semifinal action at Schilling Field in State Center. The Norsemen entered with a record of 18-12, while the Trojans entered at 25-6.

West Marshall would feed off early Roland-Story mistakes, scoring 2 runs before even recording a hit in the first inning, to take a 2-0 lead. The Trojan bats then added 2 more runs in the 4th to take a 4-0 lead. Roland-Story would then flip the script, as William Zamzow delivered a 2-run RBI single to cut the lead in half at 4-2 in the 5th. Zamzow would then deliver again in the top of the 7th with another 2-run RBI single that tied the game a 4-4. Both teams would avoid giving up the go-ahead run in the 7th and 8th, before West Marshall executed a safety squeeze in the bottom of the 8th to walk it off with a 5-4 final score.

William Zamzow finished the night 2-for-4 with 2 singles and 4 RBI, while Ben Greenfield would go 1-for-2 on the night. Luke Patton was charged with the loss in relief, despite allowing 1 run off 1 hit and striking out 7.

Roland-Story’s season ends at 18-13, West Marshall will face Aplington-Parkersburg in the Class 2A, District 13 final on Friday night.
