The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they made the trip into western Iowa to take on the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars at Merchants Park in Carroll in Class 2A, District 3 semifinal action. The Eagles entered at 16-9, while the Cougars entered at 17-7.
The game appeared to be on its way to being a pitchers duel between Eagle Grove’s Cayden Schultz and Manson-Northwest Webster’s Dillon Manthei, however, mistakes would snowball for the Eagles defense in the 3rd, culminating in 5 runs scoring as the Cougars would take a 5-0 lead. Eagle Grove would scratch back with RBI from Nolan Krauss and Jake Jeske, but ultimately would fall short in a 6-2 defeat.
Cayden Schultz would pitch 5 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) off just 3 hits, while striking out 11 batters for Eagle Grove. Dillon Manthei would pitch 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs off 6 hits and striking out 11 batters as well.
Eagle Grove’s season concludes at 16-10, while Manson-Northwest Webster will face (2A) #6 Carroll Kuemper for the District 3 title.
