The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team wound up advancing to the Class 1A, District 3 semifinal round on Monday night, with an 8-0 shutout of the Colo-NESCO Royals at Duane Newton Field in Zearing.
The game started on Saturday night, as the Hawks led 1-0 after a Braden Young RBI single, but rain put a stoppage to the game after 2 innings, and the coaches and umpires decided to come back on Monday night to finish the game up.
South Hamilton would waste little time in taking command when play resumed, scoring 5 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Hawks would then add a run in the 4th, with a Landon Skartvedt home run as the cherry on top in the 5th, as South Hamilton cruised to their 8-0 victory.
Landon Grove would have the top statistical night, going 2-for-3 with a double, single and 2 RBI. Sophomore pitcher Landon Sogard was sensational, allowing no runs on 3 hits, and striking out a season-high 14 batters.
South Hamilton returns to action on Wednesday night, when they take on (1A) #1 Mason City Newman in Mason City in the Class 1A, District 3 semifinal.
