It was a battle of two KQ-area teams on Thursday night, as Webster City made the short trip up on Highway 17, to take on a former conference foe in the Eagle Grove Eagles at Greenwood Park. Webster City entered at 14-15, while Eagle Grove entered at 14-14.
The game would move with great pace early, with Webster City getting on the board in the 2nd off a Breanna Bahrenfuss RBI single to lead 1-0. The Lynx would then add 3 runs in the 4th, off an Ava Petersen RBI single and a costly error that allowed 2 runs to score. Webster City would then get 2 more runs in the 6th to take a 6-0 lead, before Eagle Grove came storming back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to bring it within 6-4. At that point, Delainey Bargfrede would re-enter for Webster City as the pitcher, after being replaced by Jakaela Cherry in the 5th, and would retire the side in order in the 7th to take home a 6-4 win.
Breanna Bahrenfuss would go 2-for-3 with 2 singles and 2 RBI to lead the way for the Lynx, while Trinity Griffith, Ava Peterson and Adeline Tesdahl all contributed RBI for Webster City. Delainey Bargfrede would pitch 5 innings, allowing 0 runs off 2 hits and struck out 8.
Webster City returns to action on Friday night as they host Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Eagle Grove returns to action next Thursday, when they travel to Clarion to take on Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in their Class 3A Regional opener.
