South Hamilton varsity splits HOIC matchup at PCM

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball and softball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, as they made the trip down to Jasper County to take on the Mustangs of PCM in Heart of Iowa Conference action. Hawks baseball entered with a mark of 8-12, while Hawks softball entered with a record of 4-20.

South Hamilton baseball would be in a back-and-forth affair with the Mustangs, as PCM struck first with an Easton Webb RBI groundout that scored Chase Wagaman to make it 1-0 PCM. The Hawks would answer back with 4 runs in the 2nd, with an RBI double from Braden Young, an RBI groundout by Ryland Ubben and then a 2-run RBI double from Tjerdan Johnson to take a 4-1 lead. The game would slow down until the 6th, when the Hawks would add 4 more runs off a Ryland Ubben RBI single, followed by a pair of PCM errors that allowed 3 more runs to score as South Hamilton led 8-1. PCM would storm back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th, highlighted by a Will Owens home run to cut it to 8-5. However, that’s as close as it would get, as Landon Skartvedt would collect the save in an 8-5 win.

Hawks softball would fall to PCM by a final of 10-0, as the Mustangs offense was highlighted by senior Joslin Briles grand slam. South Hamilton did not have stats posted on Bound at the time of release.

South Hamilton softball returns to action on Friday, when they host Woodward-Granger in their Class 2A, Region 3 opener at 7 PM. South Hamilton baseball returns to action Saturday, as they travel to Colo to take on Colo-NESCO in their Class 1A, District 3 opener.
