The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball and softball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, as they made the trek up into Kossuth County to take on the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action in Algona. CGD baseball entered with a record of 8-20, while CGD softball entered with a record of 7-15.
CGD baseball would fall behind the 8-ball early and wereunable to muster the necessary offensive firepower in an 11-1, 5-inning loss to Algona on Wednesday night. Preston Gardner would have a good night at the plate for the Cowboys, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Algona senior Tristin Larsen would go 1-for-1 with 3 RBI on the night.
CGD softball would jump on top of Algona early in their matchup, as they led 8-1 after 3 innings, however, Algona would come all the way back to tie the game at 8-8 in the 5th. The Cowgirls would still have some firepower left as they plated 2 runs in the 6th and a run in the 7th to take home an 11-8 win. Kennedy Trca would go 2-for-5 at the plate with a single and double, with 3 RBI. Payton DeCoster and Makenna Hasty would each tally 2 RBI, while Tess Wibholm would pick up the win in relief, pitch 3.2 innings, allowing 2 runs off 6 hits.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Thursday, July 6th, when they host Eagle Grove in their Class 3A, Region 2 quarterfinal. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Garner to take on Southeast Valley in Class 2A, District 4 action.
