The Webster City Lynx baseball and softball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City baseball entered with a record of 12-14, while Webster City softball entered with a record of 12-15.
Lynx baseball would fall behind the 8-ball early, trailing 1-0 after the first, and 3-0 after 4 innings. It wasn’t until the 6th that Webster City got on the board with a CJ Hisler RBI single to make it 3-1. The Lynx then staged a furious rally in the 7th, cutting it to 3-2 early in the frame, before Clear Lake lost a Josh Stansfield fly ball in the lights with 2 outs, which allowed the tying run to score, before CJ Hisler would strike once again, with the game-winning RBI single to walk it off. Hisler would go 2-for-4 with those 2 RBI, Ty McKinney picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs on no hits and striking out 6 batters in 3 innings of relief of starter Gavin Griffith.
Webster City softball would also be in a tight, low-scoring affair the whole way through, thanks to the pitching of junior Delainey Bargfrede. Bargfrede recorded her 4th-career no-hitter in a 1-0 win, as she struck out 9 batters in the win.
Webster City returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden to take on the Cadets in North Central Conference action.
