Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity swept by Humboldt

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball and softball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted North Central Conference rivals Humboldt at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School in Clarion. CGD baseball entered with a mark of 8-18, while CGD softball entered with a mark of 5-14.

On the baseball diamond, Humboldt wasted little time in asserting their presence against the Cowboys, scoring 4 runs in the first and 4 runs in the 2nd to take a commanding 8-0 lead. The Wildcats would add 3 more runs in the next 2 innings to hold an 11-0 lead, and cinch-up a ten-run rule victory after 5 innings at 11-0. Wildcats pitcher Jayden Gargano threw a no-hitter, striking out 7 in 5 innings as Humboldt sealed an outright NCC baseball title.

In softball, it was a much tighter contest between the Cowgirls and Wildcats a 2nd time around, as Humboldt would take the initial 1-0 lead in the 2nd, before adding a run in the 4th and a run in the 5th, to lead 3-0. CGD would get a run on the board in the 7th, but it was not enough as Humboldt held on for the 3-1 win.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Garner to take on Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.
