Webster City and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows got together on Wednesday night, for a baseball and softball matchup pitting two KQ-area teams and North Central Conference rivals at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. Webster City baseball entered with a 11-13 record, while CGD entered at 8-15, Webster City softball entered with a 12-14 record, while CGD entered a 4-12 record.
Webster City baseball started quickly and continued to build on as the game progressed, eventually culminating in a 13-1 win in 6 innings. Ty McKinney had the most efficient night at the plate for the Lynx, going 2-for-3 with a single and double, 2 RBI and 2 walks drawn. Keegan Hisler and Connor Hanson also drove in 2 RBI each, while Briar Klaver, Matthew Tesdahl and Jaxon Griffith added 1 RBI each. Gavin Griffith would pitch all 6 innings, allowing 1 run off 3 hits, and striking out 5. CGD did not have stats posted on Bound at the time of release.
On the softball diamond, it was more of a timid start for the Lynx, but Webster City would add a run in the 2nd and 3 runs in the 3rd to take a 4-0 lead. The Lynx added 2 more insurance runs in the 5th, before CGD got on the board in the 7th, but would fall 6-1. Clarissa Hasty would have the lone RBI on the night, going 2-for-4 with a triple, while Haley Darland pitched all 7 innings, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 7. Webster City did not have stats posted on Bound at the time of release.
Webster City returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Humboldt. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Thursday, as they travel to West Hancock.
