The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball and softball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, as they made the drive north into Winnebago County as they took on the Lake Mills Bulldogs in Top of Iowa West Conference action at Lake Mills High School. Eagle Grove baseball entered at 13-8, while Eagle Grove softball entered at 10-10.
Baseball proved to be a pitchers duel of pitchers duels, with both teams throwing up 0’s through 7 innings. Finally, it was Eagle Grove that would break through in the 8th, scoring 3 runs, highlighted by a 2-run RBI single by Mack Morgan to take a 3-0 lead. Jordan Morris would then slam the door shut in the bottom of the 8th for a crucial 3-0 win for Eagle Grove. Cayden Schultz would pitch 6.1 innings, allowing 0 runs of 5 hits and striking out 12 batters. Schutlz’s counterpart Eli Menke would pitch 8.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) off 4 hits, while striking out 11.
Softball would provide a similar close game, but it was Lake Mills who got off to the fast start, plating 5 in the first to take a 5-0 lead. Eagle Grove would eventually cut it to 5-4, before Lake Mills added two more runs to make it 7-4. Eagle Grove would again, cut it back to one at 7-6, but Lake Mills held on for the close 7-6 win. At the time of release, Eagle Grove had not posted stats in Bound.
Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Manson-Northwest Webster, Eagle Grove softball returns on Thursday as well, when they travel to Pocahontas to take on Pocahontas Area.
