South Hamilton splits varsity matchups with Nevada

The South Hamilton Hawks baseball and softball teams returned to action on Monday, when they took on the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action. South Hamilton baseball entered with a record of 6-10, while South Hamilton softball entered with a mark of 3-17.

South Hamilton and Nevada’s baseball teams made the trek up to Waterloo on Monday to play at Riverfront Stadium, and the game would turn out to be an offensive explosion, that South Hamilton won 21-10. Owen Duns would go 4-for-4 with 5 RBI on the day with 4 singles, while Braden Young went 3-for-5, falling a home run short of the cycle with 4 RBI. Tjerdan Johnson added 3 RBI, while Preston Van De Pol and Carter Balvanz each added 2 RBI as well. Landen Skartvedt also put together an impressive stat line with 5 drawn walks and 5 runs scored.

South Hamilton softball would fall to Nevada by a score of 19-7, as Nevada 8th-grader Jorie Hillman would have a monster night at the plate, belting 3 home runs and driving in 10 runs on the night.

South Hamilton returns to action on Wednesday night, as they host conference-rival Roland-Story in Jewell.
