The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball and softball teams made the trip down to Des Moines on Monday night, to take on the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School. Roland-Story baseball entered with a record of 10-11, while Roland-Story softball entered with a mark of 9-12.
Norsemen baseball made the trip up to Saydel following finishing their game with Grand View Christian from May 30th, which resulted in a 4-2 win, and kept the momentum going with a Sam Knoll RBI single in the top of the first. Saydel would tie it in the 2nd before taking the lead in the 3rd, before Brett Schmitz would reach and eventually score on a pair of errors to cut it to 3-2. Saydel would blow the game open thanks to Jaxon Trotter’s bases-clearing RBI double, as Saydel would lead 7-2 after 5 innings and hold on for that win.
Norsemen softball fell to a very good Saydel team by a final of 14-4 in 6 innings, as the Eagles were propelled by the performance of all-stater Dakota Lake, who belted 2 home runs as well as pitched for the Eagles in their win.
Roland-Story returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Jewell to take on conference-rival South Hamilton.
