The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball and softball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Golden Bears of Algona Bishop Garrigan in Top of Iowa West Conference Action. Eagle Grove baseball entered with a mark of 13-7, while Eagle Grove softball entered at 10-10.
A game that was expected to be decided in close fashion, became a rout as Bishop Garrigan downed Eagle Grove 21-6 on the baseball diamond. Garrett Heying and Keaton Helleseth each drove in 4 runs, with Heying also blasting a home run as well. Nathan Merron picked up the win, pitching 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and striking out 5.
Softball was much of the same as Bishop Garrigan held a 5-1 lead going into the 7th, before they blew the doors open with a 5-run frame to take home a 10-1 win over the Eagles. Celeste Figueroa drove in the only Eagle Grove run on the night in a 1-for-3 outing.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Wednesday night, when they travel up to Lake Mills to take on the Bulldogs.
