Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity swept in NCC showdown at Hampton-Dumont-CAL

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball and softball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they traveled east to Franklin County to take on the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action in Hampton. CGD baseball entered with a record of 7-13, while CGD softball entered with a record of 4-10.

The Cowboys would lose a back-and-forth affair by a final of 10-8, as both teams were tied at 2-2 after the first, and 4-4 after the 2nd. Hampton-Dumont-CAL led 5-4 before they would blow the game open with 5 runs in the 5th to take a 10-4 lead. CGD got the bats going in the 6th and 7th, scoring 4 runs in the two frames, but ultimately fell short of the come back. The Bulldogs would get 2 RBI each from Anthony Valenzuela and Cael Burmester.

The Cowgirls would also fall in a close game, with a tad more defense in a 5-4 loss. CGD led 2-1 after the first inning, before HD-CAL tied it at 2-2 after the 2nd. Each team would trade scoreless frames until the 6th, as CGD took a 4-2 lead, before HD-CAL stormed back to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the frame. The Bulldogs held off the Cowgirls in the 7th for the win. Kennedy Trca would have a stellar day at the plate for CGD, driving in all 4 runs in a 2-for-3 day, with a home run to boot.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Tuesday, as baseball hosts Central Springs in a varsity doubleheader in Clarion, while softball travels to Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond at Harlan Rodgers Sports Complex.
