Eagle Grove varsity sweeps TOIW matchup with West Hancock

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball and softball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Eagles of West Hancock in Top of Iowa West Conference action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove baseball entered at 9-7, while Eagle Grove softball entered at 9-8.

Eagle Grove baseball would hold on to win a wild 10-9 ballgame, in a game that saw the Eagles trail 9-3 after 3.5 innings. However, the Eagle Grove bats came to life in the 4th, plating 6 runs to tie the game at 9-9, before a run scored in the 5th to take a 10-9 lead. The Eagles bullpen would then shut the door on West Hancock to take the win. Trenton Sorenson would have a team-high 3 RBI on the night, while Jake Jeske, Syrus Willard, Mack Morgan, Jordan Morris and Nolan Krauss all tallied RBI as well. Talon Carpenter picked up the win in relief, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 5.

Eagle Grove softball would ten-run West Hancock on Wednesday night by a final of 12-2, even with West Hancock holding a 2-0 lead after 2 innings. Eagle Grove scored all 12 runs between the 3rd and 5th inning to pick up the 5 inning win. Addyson Jeske, Braxton Steil, Nadia Kaiser, Suzi Kaiser and Chloe Steil all contributed RBI for the Eagles, while Brooklyn Osborn pitched all 5 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and striking out 6.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Thursday night as they take on St. Edmond in Fort Dodge, Eagle Grove softball returns to action Friday night, when they host Belmond-Klemme.
