The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball and softball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action at CGD High School in Clarion. The Cowboys entered with a record of 5-13, while the Cowgirls entered with a record of 3-10.
CGD baseball would pick up a 14-4 win in 5 innings on Wednesday night, extending their now 3-game winning streak. The Cowboys jumped all over the Cadets early, scoring 12 of their 14 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. The biggest contributor was senior Nevan Foss, who went 3-for-4 on Wednesday night, with 3 singles and 4 RBI. Fellow senior Preston Gardner would bring in 3 runs himself as well. Foss also pitched all 5 innings, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 3.
The Cowgirls clawed back to steal a 6-5 game from Iowa Falls-Alden, as CGD and IF-A would go back and forth with the lead all night long, before Clarion got the final crack in the bottom of the 7th, trailing by one, and plated 2 runs to pull off the win. Senior Kennedy Trca would go 2-for-4 on the night with 2 RBI, while Abby Dorn and Makenna Hasty also contributed RBI. Haley Darland would pitch all 7 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and striking out 2.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Lake Mills to take on the Bulldogs, while CGD softball returns on Monday, when they take on Hampton-Dumont-CAL in Hampton.
