Webster City varsity splits NCC matchup with Hampton-Dumont-CAL

The Webster City Lynx baseball and softball teams made the trip north and east into Franklin County on Monday night, to take on the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action in Hampton. Webster City baseball entered with a record of 9-10, while Webster City softball entered with a mark of 7-10.

Lynx baseball started off quickly against the Bulldogs, leading 2-1 after the 1st inning, as the two teams dueled it out defensively for the following 4 innings, before Webster City got 2 runs across in the 6th to make it 4-1. However, Hampton-Dumont-CAL created a breakthrough in the 6th, scoring 5 runs to take a 6-4 lead. The Lynx would get a run across in the 7th, but couldn’t bring the tying run home as they fell to the Bulldogs by a score of 6-5. Josh Stansfield would go 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, while Brady Asklund pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 6 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 8.

Webster City softball would use a slow, steady climb to take down the Bulldogs on Monday night, as things got started quickly in the first with an Ava Peterson 3-run home run to put Webster City up 3-0. The Lynx would slowly add to their lead with runs in the 4th and 5th, 2 runs in the 6th, and finally 5 runs in the 7th, to take home a 12-0 win. Peterson would go 2-for-4 with that 3-run home run, while Trinity Griffith went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Delainey Bargefrede pitched the complete game, allowing 0 runs off 6 hits and struck out 6.
