The Webster City Lynx baseball and softball teams made the trip north on I-35 on Wednesday night, to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Clear Lake High School. Lynx baseball entered with a record of 7-9, while Lynx softball entered with a record of 4-8.
In what would be a pitchers duel, it was Clear Lake that would connect on the meaningful shot, as a Dylan Bieber RBI single was the only blemish on an otherwise quality start from sophomore Brady Asklund, who struck out 5 and allowed only 4 hits in the loss. Clear Lake starter Andrew Theiss would get out of numerous jams in his complete game win, allowing 8 hits and striking out 6 in Clear Lake’s 1-0 win.
Webster City softball would see more offensive action on Wednesday night, as the Lynx jumped out in front 3-0 after 3 innings, before Clear Lake’s offense began to put it together, cutting the score to 3-1, before Webster City would extend it to 5-2, and eventually 6-2. Clear Lake would add a run in the 6th, but 3 Webster City runs in the top of the 7th would prove to be a difference maker, as 3 Clear Lake runs in the bottom of the 7th were not enough in the 9-6 win.
Ava Peterson had a team-high 2 RBI, as Delainey Bargfrede pitched the complete game, allowing 6 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits and striking out 9.
Webster City softball returns to action on Thursday night as they host Iowa Falls-Alden. Webster City baseball returns to action on Thursday night, as they travel to Pocahontas Area.
