The South Hamilton Hawks baseball and softball teams returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action in Jewell. South Hamilton baseball entered with a record of 4-8, while South Hamilton softball entered with a record of 2-7.
South Hamilton baseball was looking to bounce back after an 0-2 start to the week, but the PCM pitching staff had other ideas, combining to just allow one South Hamilton hit, and striking out 12 batters between starter Trenner VanDyke and reliever Nick Farver. PCM would get RBI contributions from Farver and Jacob Wendt, en route to a 4-0 shutout victory.
South Hamilton softball kept it within arms reach throughout most of the night against PCM, trailing 5-1 after 6 innings, before PCM blew it open with an 11-run top of the 7th, capping off a 16-1 thrashing. Paige Steenhoek and Ella Schendel each had 3 RBI in the win.
South Hamilton returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Perry to take on the Blue Jays in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
