The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they welcomed in the 6th-ranked team in Class 1A, the Collins-Maxwell Spartans. Roland-Story entered with a record of 4-4, while Collins-Maxwell entered with an unblemished 9-0 record.
It was a fast start for the Spartans, as they scored the first 5 runs of the game, scoring 2 off starter Addy Sabatino, followed by 3 runs that were punched in by an Erica Hogue 3-run home run off Alyssa Jones to put the Spartans up 5-0. Roland-Story would then begin to scrape and claw their way back, as 8th-grader Miley Geise lined an RBI triple to the fence, which scored Brookelyn Jondle and Alynn Solberg to cut the deficit to 3.
Collins-Maxwell would tack a run back on to the lead off a Roland-Story error to lead 6-2, before the furious Norsemen rally began. Payton Jeter would lace an RBI single to left field to score Regan Faber, before Lydia Oetker smacked a 2-run RBI double into the gap in left center to cut the score to 6-5. Following a scoreless top of the 4th, Reagan Faber would tie the game by scoring on a Jayden Peters wild pitch, which was shortly followed by Roland-Story taking the lead on an Alyssa Jones RBI single to put the Norsemen up 7-6.
Alyssa Jones would then help her cause again in the 6th, by driving in 2 more runs on an RBI single to right center to extend the Roland-Story lead to 9-6, before shutting the door on the Spartans in the 7th to score an upset over the #6 team in Class 1A.
Roland-Story returns to action on Wednesday night as they travel to State center to take on West Marshall.
