Webster City American Legion announce the return of the Avenue of Flags and Memorial Day services.

The Webster City American Legion Post 191 announced Friday the activities for the Avenue of Flags and Memorial Day services on May 29,2023. As for the Avenue of Flag display at Graceland Cemetery, over 500 flags and poles will be on display. Legion members and volunteers will begin the task of removing the base plugs and installing the base poles at 9:00 a.m. on Friday,May 26.
On Saturday,May 27,the flags will be installed by the Webster City American Legion and volunteers. The flags and poles will be on display through June 3 at 9:00 a.m. when they will be taken down. The volunteers are asked to meet at the blue building at Graceland Cemetery. Small pickup trucks, golf carts and or side-by-sides are needed to take the flags to different cemetery locations. As for Memorial Day,May 29 in Webster City, the Legion members who are on the firing squad are to meet at the Legion Hall at 7:30 a.m. Legion memberes and Auxiliary members are the assemble at the Legion Hall at 8:00 a.m. for transportation to the services. Transportation will be provided. The first service of the day on May 29 will be at the Marshall Crippen Bridge at 8:30 for those lost at sea. This service will be conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary.
The second service of the day will be held at Cass Center Cemetery.which is located northeast of Webster City starting at 9:00 a.m..
The annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m.. The route will be traveling south on Des Moines Street to the Boulvevard of Valor where there will be a presentation of roses at the markers. A recognition of active duty military personnel by the Auxiliary will be taking place at the Boulevard of Valor. The parade will continue down Des Moines Street making a west turn on to Ohio Street and into the entrance of Graceland Cemeter for the 11:00 a.m. service to be conducted by Webster City American Legion Commnader Richard Stroner. This year’s featured speaker will be Richard Rieck. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be cancelled.
