The South Hamilton Hawks boys golf team returned to action on Monday morning, as they made the long trek west into Cass County to compete in their Class 1A District Tournament at Crestwood Hills Golf Course in Anita. The Hawks were joined by athletes from Bedford, CAM, Earlham, Fremont-Mills, Griswold, Hamburg, HLV, Keota, Lynnville-Sully, Montezuma, Moravia, Mount Ayr, North Mahaska, Sidney and Wayne.
It was a banner day for the Hawks on the course, as South Hamilton was the meet team champion with a score of 318, sending the Hawks to next week’s state tournament. Landon Sogard was the top placer, shooting a 75 (+3) to place 5th in the meet. Other qualifiers out of the CAM district included the host Cougars, as well as Montezuma.
2023 is the 12th time the Hawks have qualified for the boys state golf tournament, and the first time since South Hamilton won the 2014 Class 2A State Title. The Class 1A State Tournament will be May 22nd and May 23rd at Ames Golf and Country Clubs.
