The Webster City Lynx track teams made the trip south and east into Story County on Thursday afternoon, to compete in their Class 3A, District 7 State Qualifying Meet at Nevada High School in Nevada. The Lynx were joined by the host Cubs, as well as Algona, Clear Lake, Gilbert, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt and North Polk.
The day would start off nicely for the Lynx, as the boys picked up a sweep in the throwing events thanks to Jaxon Cherry. Cherry won the discus with a throw of 168′ 8″, a new personal-best, before winning the shot put with a throw of 52′ 4″, putting him in the field for both throwing events at the state meet.
This would be followed up by the lone girls state qualifier for the Lynx, as Cloe Savitski placed 2nd in the 100m dash in a time of 13.24, sending her to the blue oval. The boys would then follow up by (likely) qualifying for the 4×200 relay, in a season-best time of 1:31.64 with the team of Weinzetl-K. Hisler-Estlund-C. Hisler. That time currently sits 17th in 3A, before the boys 4×100 would place 3rd in a school-record time 43.09 with the team of Weinzetl-K. Hisler-C. Hisler-Cherry, likely sending them to the blue oval with the 7th-fastest time in Class 3A. Sandwiched in between was CJ Hisler taking home gold in the 200m dash, winning in a time of 22.98.
Webster City’s girls would place 7th with 39.5 points, Webster City’s boys would place 6th with 70 points. North Polk would sweep both the boys and girls state qualifying meet titles, full meet results can be found at Athletic Live.
