The Roland-Story Norsemen track teams made the trip north and east on Thursday afternoon, to compete in their Class 2A, District 2 State Qualifying Meet at Dike-New Hartford High School in Dike. The Norsemen were joined by the host Wolverines, as well as Aplington-Parkersburg, Columbus Catholic, East Marshall, Grundy Center, Hudson, Iowa Falls-Alden, Manson-Northwest Webster, South Hardin, Union Community and West Marshall.
The girls would start out the day well, with the sprint medley winning in a time of 1:52.23, a new season-best and the 5th best time in Class 2A, with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Lande-Kilstofte. This would be followed up by a 2nd place finish in the 4×200 relay, with Roland-Story posting a time of 1:47.97 with a similar team of Sporleder-Petersen-Kilstofte-Lande, as Kamryn Lande came back a short time later to qualify for the 200m dash, placing 2nd in a time of 26.80. Roland-Story’s girls closed out their automatic qualifiers with a 2nd place finish in the 4×100 relay in a time of 52.14 with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Faber-Kilstofte.
Roland-Story’s boys would primarily see success on the track itself, as the boys sprint medley placed 3rd in a time of 1:36.31, putting them in position for a spot for an at-large bid, as that time ranks 11th in Class 2A. The Norsemen would immediately follow that up with a 2nd place finish in the 4×800, in a season-best time of 8:16.03 with the team of Greenfield-Johnson-Kilstofte-Lande. The distance medley would follow up some time later, winning in a time of 3:41.95 with the team of McIlrath-Lettown-Johnson-Greenfield, before Kale Lande claimed an individual title in the 400m dash in a time of 50.81. The Norsemen 4×200 also ran themselves into position for a possible state berth, placing 3rd in a time of 1:33.37 with McIlrath-Lettow-Knoll-Carpenter, which sits 20th in 2A. Finally, Roland-Story punched in their premier event with the 4×400 relay winning in a time of 3:28.36 with the team of McIlrath-Johnson-Greenfield-Lande.
Roland-Story’s boys would place 5th with 70 points, Grundy Center was the boys team champion. Roland-Story’s girls would also place 5th with 71 points, Union Community was the girls team champion. Full meet results can be found here.
