At their meeting Monday evening,the Stratford city council met with Nancy Baker and Keith Leeds from the Stratford Community Development Corporation on the “Stratford on the Loose” celebration set for July 8. The corporation recommended to the council to close Shakespeare Avenue from Commercial Street to Tennyson Avenue from 9:00 a.m. until midnight on the day of the event. The parade will start at 10:00 a.m.. The day will feature a vendor fair, games and attractions. Rungo’s will operate a beer garden plus live music from 5 until 11 p.m. The council accepted the update from the Stratford Community Development Corporation.
Doran Stakey representing the United Cooperative met with the Stratford council to explain to the council the Co-op’s current expansion project. Stakey asked the council for permission to allow United Co-op to widen the three driveways on the north side of Commercial Street east of Shakespeare Avenue on the south side of their current property. Sometime this year the United Co-op willbe putting up a new office and scale on the east side of Shakespeare Avenue on their current property and replacing a few bins next year. The Stratford city council voted to approve the request from the United Co-operative.
The date of May 22 at 7:00 p.m. was set for a public hearing on the west Tennyson Avenue Watermain Improvement Project. Jim Leiding with Bolton and Menk, Incorporated reviewed the tablulation of bids for the west Tennyson Avenue Watermain Improvement Project with the council. There were 12 bids received with the highest bid being $109,500 and the lowest bid coming in at $52,292. Leiding informed the council that he met with the lowest bidder, went over the bids and requested references from them.There will be more discussion on this matter on May 22.
In other matters, the Stratford city council approved Hunter Collicott’s membership for the town fire department and approved the resignation of Chase Haman effective May 5.
