The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks track teams made the trip south into northern Polk County on Monday evening, to compete in the North Polk Co-Ed Relays at North Polk High School in Alleman. The Hawks and Norsemen were joined by Bondurant-Farrar (girls), Greene County, Johnston (boys), Nevada, North Polk, and PCM.
Roland-Story would pick up a number of wins on Monday, beginning with Adalyn Sporleder in the girls long jump with a mark of 15′ 10.25″. The success would then carry into the girls sprint medley, which won in a time of 1:57.44 with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Lande-Kilstofte, before Claire Truesdell would win the 3000 meter run in a time of 12:24.13. The boys would join in the fracas with a win in the shuttle hurdle relay in a season-best time of 1:08.72 with the team of Patton-Berggren-Long-Strum. Both Norsemen boys and girls would sweep the 4×200, with the girls winning in a time of 1:52.31 with the quartet of Sporleder-Petersen-Kilstofte-Lande, while the boys would win in a time of 1:35.37 with the team of McIlrath-Knoll-Johnson-Lettow. Kale Lande would win the boys open 400, in a time of 53.32, while the girls would get a win in the distance medley in a time of 5:01.29 with the team of Crutchfield-Faber-Britten-Ihle. Selah Helgeson then would sweep the girls hurdle events, winning the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.91, a new-season best, before winning the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:18.86.
South Hamilton would pick up a handful of wins on Monday as well, beginning in the girls discus as Daytona Ferrie won her first varsity event, winning the discus with a throw of 95′ 8″. This would be followed up with a win in the boys sprint medley in a time of 1:43.84 with the team of Severseike-Drake-Hodnefield-Koehnk. Ty Koehnk would then pair that up with a win in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.34, before the girls 4×100 relay wrapped up the winnings for the Hawks, winning their race in a time of 53.12 with the team of Thompson-Flaugh-Erickson-Barkema.
South Hamilton’s boys would place 3rd in the meet with 88 points, while Roland-Story placed 5th with 76 points, Nevada was the team champion with 148 points on the boys side. The girls saw South Hamilton place 2nd with 104.66 points, while Roland-Story placed 3rd with 102.66 points, Greene County was the team champion with 129.66 points.
