The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team, ranked #4 in 2A in the latest IHSSCA poll, returned to action on Monday night at Webster City High School as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions. Clear Lake entered with a 7-4 record and 4-4 in the conference, while Webster City entered with a 7-1 record overall and in conference.
The Lions looked to flip the script early, getting more than a couple clean looks at goals, but either missed wide or were thwarted by Lynx goalie Jon Magdaleno. Finally, Webster City would get on the board with a goal from Eduardo Perez in the 26th minute, with the assist from Everado Hernandez, to put the Lynx up 1-0. It wouldn’t be long before the Lynx struck again as Perez would draw a foul inside the penalty box, which allowed him to convert a penalty kick to put Webster City up 2-0 in the 33rd minute. Clear Lake would get on the board in the 37th minute on a Andrew Korenborg goal to make the score 2-1 going to halftime.
The 2nd half saw the Lynx continue the intensity on both ends, as Craig Signorin’s squad struck early with a goal from Francisco Arguera Chavez in the 48th minute to put Webster City up 3-1. From there, Webster City would put the game in the proverbial lock box, using intense defense to thwart any Clear Lake opportunities in the 2nd half en route to the 3-1 win.
Webster City moved to 8-1 on the season with the win, and they’ll travel to Belmond to take on Wright County on Thursday.
