The Webster City Lynx soccer team made the trip north into Hancock County on Monday night, to take on the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in North Central Conference action in Garner. Webster City entered with a 5-1 record and 4-1 in conference play, while GHV entered with a 1-4 record.
The night would belong to sophomore midfielder Eddy Fuentes, as Fuentes gave the Lynx 2 goals in the first half to put Webster City up 2-0 headed into the locker room. Fuentes would then turn in a hat-trick with his goal in the 2nd half to put Webster City up 3-0 as the Lynx would hold on for the shutout. Senior goalkeeper Jon Magdaleno would once again keep the opposition off the board, notching 2 saves and posting a shutout for the 3rd consecutive game.
Webster City improved to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play, and will play host to (3A) #2 Humboldt in a defacto North Central Conference title game on Thursday evening at Webster City High School.
