The Webster City Lynx and Roland-Story Norsemen boys track teams made the trip west on Tuesday evening to compete at the annual Southeast Valley Invitational at Southeast Valley High School in Gowrie. The Lynx and Norsemen were joined by the host Jaguars, as well as Gilbert, Glidden-Ralston, G-T/R-A, Madrid, Manson-Northwest Webster, Ogden, Paton-Churdan, Pocahontas Area and West Bend-Mallard.
Webster City would take home a number of champions on Tuesday, beginning with the field events where Jaxon Cherry swept the shot put and discus. Cherry won the shot put with a toss of 53′ 1″, before winning the discus with a throw of 161′ 4.5″. As of Wednesday morning, Cherry’s shot put throw is good for 14th in the state, while his discus throw is also good for 14th in the state.
The Lynx would pick up their first win in the running events in the 100 meter dash, where Jayden Weinzetl won in a time of 11.71, while CJ Hisler placed 2nd in 12.03. Webster City would then follow that up with a 1-2 finish in the 800 meter run, as Brayden Henley won in a time of 2:14.44, while Justin Callahan was 2nd in 2:15.06. Soon there after, CJ Hisler would win the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.85, before the night was bookended by the Lynx’s win in the 4×100 relay in a time of 45.07.
Roland-Story would see just a couple of winners on Tuesday night, as the Norsemen won the sprint medley in a time of 1:38.53, before ending the night with a win in the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:35.24. The Norsemen would also pickup 2nd place finishes in the Shuttle Hurdle (1:09.31) and the 4×800 ( 8:58.26) as well as Hesston Johnson placing 2nd in the 200 meter dash in a time of 24.59.
Webster City would pick up their first meet win of the year, scoring 136 points, while Roland-Story would place 3rd with 87 points. Full meet results can be found here.
