The South Hamilton Hawks track teams made the trip south on Tuesday evening, to compete at the Earlham Co-Ed Relays at Earlham High School. The Hawks were joined by the host Cardinals, as well as AC/GC, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines Christian, Gilbert (girls), Grand View Christian, Nodaway Valley, North Polk, Panorama, Van Meter and West Central Valley.
Both boys and girls would see just one combined win on Tuesday, as the boys 4×400 relay won in a time of 3:33.00 with the team of Koehnk-Ricke-Severseike-Hodnefield, putting the 4×400 in position to make a run at a Drake Relays spot. The Hawks would pick up a couple of 2nd place finishes, as Kate Barkema was runner-up in the girls 100 meter dash in a time of 13.33, while Carter Balvanz placed 2nd in the boys discus with a throw of 118′ 3″. The girls would pick up a couple of 2nd place relay finishes, as the 4×200 placed 2nd in a time of 1:52.64 with Thompson-Flaugh-Feaker-Barkema and the 4×400 placed 2nd in 4:24.11 with Thompson-Feaker-Miller-Erickson.
South Hamilton’s girls would place 7th with 65.5 points, Gilbert was the team champions with 112 points. South Hamilton’s boys would place 5th with 64 points, Des Moines Christian was the team champions with 153.5 points.
