The Webster City Lynx boys track team made the trip north and west into rival territory for the annual Charlie Bunn Invitational at Humboldt High School. The Lynx were joined by the host Wildcats, Algona, Boone, Clear Lake, Eagle Grove, Emmetsburg and Pocahontas Area.
Webster City would bring home a trio of first-place finishes, as Jaxon Cherry swept the shot put and discus. Cherry’s top toss in the shot put was 51′ 10″, while his best throw in discus was 157′ 7″, both throws that would tentatively put him in the Drake Relays. CJ Hisler would win the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.45.
Other notable finishes for the Lynx included a 2nd place finish in the Sprint Medley in a time of 1:40.11 with the team of K. Hisler-Hrnicek-Weinzetl-C. Hisler., while freshman Cole Nohrenberg placed 2nd in the discus with a throw of 130′ 7″. The 4×200-meter relay would place 2nd in a time of 1:36.33 with the team of Weinzetl-K. Hisler-Estlund-Hrnicek.
Brayden Henley would place 3rd in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:15.28, while Carter Mickelson took 3rd in the 1600-meter run in a mark of 5:02.37, and the 4×800-meter relay placed 3rd in a time of 9:04.18 with the team of Henely-Mickelson-Maxwell-Callahan.
Webster City would place 3rd with a team total of 103 points, Algona was the team champion with 162 points. The Lynx return to action on Tuesday at the Southeast Valley Boys Meet in Gowrie.
