The 2022-23 Iowa High School Girls Basketball season was a season of growth and building for the KQ-area schools, with many of the 5 area teams under-going rebuilds with a new coach or a new crop of players.
That didn’t stop stellar seasons from happening from many of our KQ-area athletes.
Awards

Stats – 19.3 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 1.7 APG, 2.5 SPG, 39.5% FG, 33.1% 3PT, 63.7% FT
Feaker claims Player of the Year honors after leading South Hamilton to one of their best seasons in over a decade. The Hawks at one-point sat at 14-2 before injuries derailed their season, but Feaker’s ability to score at all three-levels, coupled with her tenacious defense, earned her our POTY honors. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows’s Lexie Lane was also a strong contender.
Defensive Player of the Year: Elliot Ennis, So. (Clarion-Goldfield-Dows)
Stats – 9.3 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 2.6 BPG, 45.6% FG, 43.3% FT
The daughter of CGD coach Liz Ennis takes home defensive player of the year honors after a sophomore season that saw her blossom, averaging nearly a double-double and becoming a frontcourt force in the NCC, as Ennis led the conference in rebounding (10.6) and blocks (2.6) per contest.

Stats – 8.4 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.3 APG, 1.1 SPG, 37.1% FG, 33% 3PT, 58.8% FT
Jones emerged as a key contributor for the Norse, especially in the 2nd half of the season, providing nearly instantaneous offense for Roland-Story whenever she entered games. Jones managed to highlight her season with an 18-point performance against Perry on December 9th and a 21-point performance against South Hamilton on January 10th.
Coach of the Year: Mark Henderson (South Hamilton)
Record – 14-6 overall, 3rd in HOIAC

Hallee Feaker and Elliot Ennis solidified their spots in this first-team with their cases for their individual awards. South Hamilton’s Makena Galetich was in the running of Player of the Year until a knee injury cut her season short, but her numbers were more than deserving for First-Team selection.
CGD senior Lexie Lane’s historic stretch of 39 points against Webster City and 41 points against West Hancock vaulted her into the player of the year conversation late, but she was a no-brainer choice for a first-team selection. Roland-Story’s Claire Truesdell had a breakout season as a sophomore, emerging as a three-level scorer and a point forward for the Norse.
Second-Team

Forward – Ashlyn Erickson, Jr. (South Hamilton)
- Stats – 8.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 37.9% FG, 20.6% 3PT, 74.6% FT
CGD’s Sawyer Morrical headlines the second-team with her 10 PPG average, while shooting nearly 41% from three, highest in the KQ-area. Madi Bauer of Roland-Story proved to be a key senior leader for the Norse with her performance on the floor. Chloe Anderson of Webster City was the lone Lynx selection, leading Webster City in scoring and was a reliable shooter for them.
Nadia Kaiser was the lone Eagle Grove selection and proved her improvement as junior, becoming the Eagles go-to scorer. Finally, South Hamilton’s Ashlyn Erickson gets the nod at the second forward spot, as she helped carry the load offensively for the Hawks following Makena Galetich’s injury.
