The Webster City Lynx basketball team made the short trip west on Highway 20 on Monday night, to take on the Crusaders of Sioux City Bishop Heelan at Fort Dodge Senior High in Fort Dodge, in the Class 3A, Substate 1 final. The winner of the matchup would advance to next week’s Class 3A State Tournament.
For the Lynx, they were behind from the get-out, as the Crusaders motion offense was firing on all cylinders as they led 20-9 after the first quarter. Webster City was able to get off the mat in the 2nd quarter and cut the lead to single-digits by halftime, trailing 31-22.
The 3rd quarter followed the script that Webster City had created most of the postseason, with the Lynx forging a big push and only trailed by 5 going into the 4th quarter. However, Heelan was able to flip the script by staying the course in the final frame, and using a final run to put away the Lynx for good in a 63-50 win.
Ty McKinney put on a show in his final game in a Lynx uniform, scoring a game-high 23 points, while Matthew Noll led Heelan with 19 points. Webster City’s season concludes with a record of 18-4.
